When clients begin Pilates with the Tsawwassen Wellness Centre, their first appointment is ALWAYS an assessment. The reason someone starts a guided exercise program is to address issues he/she may be experiencing along with goals she wants to achieve. Maybe build strength, reduce back pain, improve posture, energy or sleep. Prepare for a trip or be strong enough to enjoy life more.
An assessment takes the time to lay the groundwork by:
1. Getting to know you and any injuries or problems you are having. Our goal is that you have a positive movement experience every time you are with us. Taking the time to get to know you and learn about what's going on, creates two way communication and helps us to guide you through a great experience.
2. Learning about your goals, interests and what's important to YOU!
3. You learn about you. Most of us just get up and go each day. We feel pain, or lack of ease in our movement but we don't actually know our body. The assessment brings opportunity for you to reconnect to your body. This awareness in itself brings change.
4. A starting point is necessary to know how to create a plan to help you achieve your goals. If you are googling directions you have to put FROM before TO. Starting an exercise program is the same. Knowing where you are now creates a direction and plan for how to get to where you want to be.
5. SAFETY! Have you ever started a new exercise regime and injured yourself? By understanding what is going on in your body NOW, helps to create a safe exercise program moving forward. We are in our bodies for the long haul. Safety creates consistency and consistency creates change!
6. Ensures you join the right class after your Jumpstart. After the 4 sessions, you can join one of our 50 classes offered throughout the week. This time helps us to recommend the best class for you. If you are strong and body aware, we can put you into a faster moving class to keep you challenged. If you are returning to exercise or have back issues, then we can direct you to our Restorative or Healthy Back classes.
The Jumpstart program at the Tsawwassen Wellness Centre includes 4 one on one sessions
- 1st appointment is an Assessment and Introduction to Pilates
- 2nd appointment - overview of the assessment and plan. Pilates session.
- 3rd appointment - introduction to the CoreAlign
- 4th appointment - full hour of Pilates to bring everything together.
